Character Details

A ninja who secretly operated behind the scenes of history. Strife and turmoil claimed his brethren, one after another, until only Zantetsu remained. This gave rise to a small doubt in his heart: "Is my art truly the strongest?" He counts this as a weakness, and the contradiction torments him. How could one destined to be strongest harbor such thoughts? To free himself from this burden, he seeks the title of the ultimate. To this end, he throws himself into battle, a sorrowful soul given over entirely to the fight.

A broad straw hat shades his features, and a cloak conceals his form.

Substory

"None in this world surpass me. Just as it should be," murmured the shadow as it faded into the dark. At the ninja's feet lay a fresh corpse, that of a swordsman who had been foolish enough to declare himself the strongest. But against Zantetsu's art, he may as well have been a helpless infant.

"And yet...," said the ninja, "this cannot be proof of strength." Blood dripped from his two short blades. Such prey was beneath him. This had not been a duel, but butchery. "Where, then, is a worthy foe?"

One day, a rumor reached his ears, a tale of a "demon" that had recently appeared. Zantetsu vowed that only by defeating such a beast could he claim the title of the ultimate, and thereby halt his inner turmoil.
